You may be
surprised to learn the roots of bluegrass. Most people know of
Bill Monroe as the "father" of bluegrass, but not everyone knows that
bluegrass combines the traditional music of Scotland and
Ireland, spirituals and blues, and gospel and country. Mandolins, fiddles, banjos, guitars, and voice -
even
a cappella - integrate into the unique sound of bluegrass and its ever
changing variations. The genre has enjoyed a national popularity with the
movie, "O Brother Where Art Thou?"
