WEEK 2

MALE REPRODUCTIVE ANATOMY & HISTOLOGY LAB

Exercise #50

Complete pages 391-396

Write in full sentences where more than one word is indicated and label all listed structures on the drawings

REQUIREMENT: USE COLORED PENCIL FOR THE DRAWINGS—POINTS WILL BE TAKEN FOR DRAWINGS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE STRUCTURES LABELED.

Look at the full size models in the classroom and the diagrams in the lab & textbook. There are photos of tissue in Exercise 50 and the histology cards for support. However, histology drawings must be from images the student sees under the microscope. This material will appear on the practical so you will want to view all of the slides and know the location of all of the male reproductive structures. You may also want to write little descriptions of the structures so that you can identify them later. (The lab is open on Fridays for those of you who do not complete the assignment)

Familiarize yourself with the location, function, and general macroscopic and microscopic structure of the:

testes

epididymus

penis

corpus cavernosa

corpus spongiosum

tunica albuginea

glans penis

prepuce

shaft

spermatic cord

ductus deferens (vas deferens)

scrotum

ejaculatory duct

seminiferous tubules

urethra

prostatic urethra

membranous urethra

spongy urethra

tubulus rectus

rete testis

epididymus

bulbourethral gland,

sperm

prostate gland

seminal vesicle

Structures in each drawing must be labeled in order to receive full credit. I will take points for slides that do not have the following labels. (The structures that must be labeled are listed in the boxes)

testes

epididymis

sperm

(draw on page 395 next to testis cross section)

penis

seminiferous tubules

sperm cells

spermatogonia

interstitial cells

sperm cells

epithelial cells

interstitial cells

head

tail

midpiece

corpus cavernosa

corpus spongiosum

tunica albuginea

urethra

HINT: On page 396 questions 2a-2e is interested in function not structure.
