WEEK 1
ENDOCRINE ANATOMY & HISTOLOGY LAB
Exercise #36
LAB 36 (pages 275 & 281-282) + tissue drawings
NOT 285-286
DO NOT DRAW THE "Pancreas showing changes from diabetes mellitus"
Write in full sentences where more than one word is indicated and label all listed structures on the drawings
REQUIREMENT: USE COLORED PENCIL FOR THE DRAWINGS—POINTS WILL BE TAKEN FOR DRAWINGS THAT DO NOT HAVE THE STRUCTURES LABELED.
Look at the full size models in the classroom and the diagrams in the lab & textbook. There are photos of endocrine tissue in Exercise 36 and the histology cards for support. However, histology drawings must be from images the student sees under the microscope. This material will appear on the practical so you will want to view all of the slides and know the location of all of the endocrine structures. You may also want to write little descriptions of the structures so that you can identify them later. (The lab is open on Fridays for those of you who do not complete the assignment)
Familiarize yourself with the location, function, and general macroscopic and microscopic structure of the:
|
pituitary gland (hypophysis) |
thyroid gland |
pancreas |
|
|
posterior pituitary gland (neurohypophysis) |
anterior pituitary gland (adenohypophysis) |
parathyroid gland |
adrenal gland (both the medulla and the cortex) |
Using prepared slides draw a representative area of the tissue and label and be able to identify the structures and cell types tissues listed below.
Structures in each drawing must be labeled in order to receive full credit. I will take points for slides that do not have the following labels. (The structures that must be labeled are listed in the boxes)
