Discussion Board

A variety of questions will be asked on the Discussion Board of BlackBoard

(5 points) For the first part of the grade the students are expected to respond to the topic.

(5 points) For the second part of the grade the student is expected to respond to someone else (except on the pathology paper discussion—only one submission will be required)

  1. Answers are expected to be a minimum of 5 complete sentences and 120-150 words to receive any credit.  If you are not sure check your word count by pasting your posts to Word and running a word count. There is no partial credit.  I COUNT WORDS.  I will not accept short 2 line answers.  This is not FaceBook
  1. E-mail and Instant Message abbreviations are not accepted.  (i.e. LOL etc) and no silly symbols like : )  or : (
  1. All answers are expected to be in accordance with level 2 of the OCTC expectations although the word ‘I’ is allowed on the assignment. Watch your grammar!

LEVEL 2

Expression at this level is one or two paragraphs in length and expresses a complete thought or supports a position, often in response to a question.  The paragraphs include an introduction, elaboration, and conclusion.  Complete sentences are required, and correct grammar and spelling should be exhibited.

  1. After the due date the Discussion Board will be closed. By that point all points will be listed on BlackBoard.  Check with me if you have responses that were not graded.
  1. Grades will be submitted to Gradebook.  If an answer does not meet the 120-150 word minimum it will receive a 0.  If there is no submission after a due date a 0 will be posted.
  1. Students can change (improve) their grade by making another submission. For instance if you receive a 0 for your response go back and make an additional response.  I will give you a new grade.
  1. I may respond and indicate a submission needs to be improved. However, I may not.  Otherwise watch Gradebook.
  1. You can write as many responses as you would like on Discussion Board as long as at least 2 of them meet the above requirements
