Epithelial Tissues
Exercise 8
Pages 63-66 (turn in pages 65-66)
Answer all questions including the critical thinking questions
This includes the drawings.
You must use colored pencils when drawing and you MUST label the layers of cells that make up the epithelial tissue for full points
This lab is to allow you to become familiar with the function & structure of epithelial tissues
1. Be able to identify and know the function of the following list of tissues
|
simple squamous epithelium |
stratified squamous epithelium |
|
simple cuboidal epithelium |
stratified cuboidal epithelium |
|
simple columnar epithelium |
stratified columnar epithelium |
|
pseudostratified columnar epithelium |
transitional epithelium |
2. Look at and draw tissues on page 66. Use an arrow to point out the lines of epithelial tissue. Fill in the 2 lines beneath the graphic. Arrows are required. (Points will be removed for graphics that do not point out the epithelial tissue)
You can share slides so that you do not have to focus each of these. (i.e. 4 people work together, each one picks a slide and you rotate around microscopes) However everyone will have a microscope.
3. You will need to use the higher powers to identify these tissues.
4. Remember:
a. Epithelial tissues are only found on the edges of specimens.
b. To identify an epithelial tissue you need to be able to see individual cells (look for nuclei)
c. Most specimens contain more than just epithelial tissues.
5. For the practical be able to
q Identify the tissues in the above table
q Identify generally where they are found
q Describe what they do
