Fetal Development:  Delivery Day

(Tune: "Silver Bells")

Written by: Dr. Kent Van De Graaff

woman expecting baby

Just concepted, not perfected,

Waiting nerve impulse too

In the womb there's a cell subdividing.

Blastulation, gastrulation.

Forming germ layers true,

Our cell is an embryo new.

Embryo, in the womb, thinking

Of life as a fetus.

Mesenchyme, doing fine,

Waiting for that fetal day.

Organs forming, heart's a-beating.

Feeling 'Iectric impulses too,

Look, our embryo's a new little fetus.

Starts to kicking, really flexing,

Working muscles each way,

Seems she's waiting for delivery day.

What to do? Fetus new,

Waiting to grow and develop.

Life to you is so new,

Waiting for your delivery day.

Back is aching, bladder's shrinking,

Ankles swelling each way,

In the bathroom she spends all

her mornings.

Constipation, consternation,

Forming varicose veins,

Eating pickles and ice cream

sundaes.

Before long, figure gone,

Housing a new little spirit.

Stomach huge, can't tie shoes

Praying for delivery day.
