Personal I am a native Kentuckian, born and raised in Owensboro, Kentucky. I graduated from Owensboro High School, began my studies at Western Kentucky University, but returned to Owensboro to be with my family and to complete my post-secondary studies at what was then the Owensboro Community College and also at Kentucky Wesleyan College. I then attended and obtained my Master's Degree in Sociology from Western Kentucky University. The defining opportunity of my graduate studies which led to a permanent teaching career was my international exchange program for completion of my thesis in Mexico. My thesis (Neoliberalism and NAFTA: A Case Study of the Coffee Commodity System and Huatusco, Veracruz, Mexico) was conducted in the field at the Universidad Autonoma de Chapingo near Mexico City, Mexico and in the community of Huatusco, Veracruz, Mexico. I am married to Susan Montalvo Gesser, an immigration attorney at Sullivan, Mountjoy, Stainback, and Miller. We have three children; Jackie, Josie, and Michael. Interests
